About

The OU Career Investigation Project was started by Timothy J. Briggs in 2010 as part of a career video assignment in his sections of WRT 150 Composition I at Oakland University. This assignment asks first-year writing students to identify a career and investigate it through primary and secondary research. For the primary research, students conduct an informational interview with a professional in the field. For the secondary research, they visit the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Once they finish investigating the career, students compose drafts of their career videos, share them in online response sessions, revise their videos, upload them to their YouTube channels, and write a reflection on their experiences with video composing. After a review process, select videos are embedded on this WordPress site. The site is linked to the First Year Advising Center at Oakland University and serves as a resource for students.

Timothy J. Briggs is a Special Lecturer in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric at Oakland University. He received the 2007 Excellence in Teaching Award at Oakland University and the 2011 Kairos Teaching Award. His videos can be found on his YouTube channel.
